Location Spotlight

  • Markets
There’s a really nice food market in the picturesque village square and adjacent streets every Thursday morning, it’s been going since 1275, so it is reasonably well established! In the summer for July and August, there’s an incredibly popular night market every Tuesday evening with all the usual crafty things you’d expect in the square and lots of stands offering everything from moules to pizza, local wines and beer, which you can eat at the tables provided under the arcades and along the narrow streets.
  • Shops
Eymet has numerous shops including a number of brocantes (antique shops), florists, tabacs, a dog grooming parlour, and even an English shop for those Brits that miss their cheddar, bacon and brown sauce.
  • Supermarkets (type number)
Carrefour Contact – This is one of the smaller Carrefour convenience stores that sells all the essentials. There is also a small Vival convenience store on the main street into the village square.
  • Bars
There are a choice of nice bars dotted around the square and the village.
  • Restaurants
There are lots of restaurants in Eymet, at the last count we came up with seventeen, but this is always in flux. Everything from traditional French cuisine to the inevitable pizza restaurant and lots in between, including brasseries, a creperie, an Indian, a Peruvian and even an English Tea Room. Importantly for expats and locals, most of these stay open during the winter.

One is the state school, the Georges and Marie Bousquet College, which has a junior (primary) school and a middle school, split into two buildings on the same site. The other school is Notre Dame, a small private junior (primary) school. But this is not a private school in the sense that we understand it in the UK, US etc. Fees are very low because it is subsidised by the Catholic church, although students are multi faith. For Lycée (senior school) students will attend the Le Cluzeau in Sigoulès (14 min – 13.8 km) or there are a number of other schools available in Bergerac. A school bus from Eymet is laid on. Other specialist residential colleges are available across the region.
