Overview
Eymet is a bastide village on the very southern tip of the Dordogne, at the junction of an important road north to south (D933), and the river Dropt.
Eymet is incredibly popular with British expats, even featuring in a number of TV shows about expat life, but it is easy to see why. Not only is it incredibly picturesque, with a classic bastide cobbled square surrounded by arcaded shops, but it also has a Chateau, camp site, banks, supermarkets, street market, doctors, pharmacy, schools, lots of restaurants and bars. There are flea markets on throughout the year and night markets during the summer season. There is even an oyster and white wine festival. It has loads going on, even out of season, which is important if you plan to live there permanently or visit your holiday home on a regular basis, you don’t want the place to turn into a ghost town as soon as the summer season finishes. As a consequence of its popularity, prices in the area are a bit higher than in some other parts of SW France, but of course, a buoyant market works in your favour when it comes to selling.

- Markets
There’s a really nice food market in the picturesque village square and adjacent streets every Thursday morning, it’s been going since 1275, so it is reasonably well established! In the summer for July and August, there’s an incredibly popular night market every Tuesday evening with all the usual crafty things you’d expect in the square and lots of food stands offering everything delicious from moules to pizza, local wines and beer, which you can eat at the tables provided under the arcades and along the narrow streets. - Shops
Eymet has numerous shops including a number of brocantes (antique shops), florists, tabacs, and even an English shop for those Brits that miss their cheddar, bacon and brown sauce. It also has plenty of boulangeries, a butcher and a gourmet speciality shop. - Supermarkets (type number)
Carrefour Contact – This is one of the smaller Carrefour convenience stores that sells all the essentials. There is also a small Vival convenience store on a side street heading into the village square. - Bars
There is a plentiful choice of nice bars dotted around the square and the village. - Restaurants
There are lots of restaurants in Eymet, at the last count we came up with seventeen, but this is always in flux. Everything from traditional French cuisine to the inevitable pizza restaurant and lots in between, including brasseries, a creperie, an Indian, a Peruvian and even an English Tea Room. Importantly for expats and locals, most of these stay open during the winter. - Notaires

The other school is Notre Dame, a small private junior (primary) school. But this is not a private school in the sense that we understand it in the UK, US etc. Fees are very low because it is subsidised by the Catholic church, although students are multi faith. For Lycée (senior school) students could attend Le Cluzeau in Sigoulès (14 min – 13.8 km) or there are a number of other schools available in Bergerac, including Maine de Biran, Center Jacques Lagabrielle, and Sainte Marthe – Saint Front.
